The game is just very clunky and janky, unfortunately. I remember thinking back then how these sections seemed to exist solely to artificially pad the game's runtime, because the game is already incredibly brief, with the average playthrough being among the 4~5 hour range. You'll get to sections which allow you to sprint, jump, slide, roll, and tumble your way with a decent sense of speed and smoothness, only to then be forced to jump across a chasm to try to cling onto a pipe, or ledge, or be shuttered into lengthy vent crawls and puzzle segments which have you just aimlessly wandering along trying to figure out where to go next. The gameplay has aged badly, and the PC version is still prone to random crashes and physics glitches.įor a game that constantly touted concepts such as "flow" and "momentum", the game is seemingly designed with the express intention on hampering both of these things as much as possible. Unfortunately that's where the good things end. The music, both the chilling and relaxing ambient themes and the frenetic action tunes, are still amazing and a joy to listen to. The visuals hold up very well, owing not only to technological prowess, but a strong art direction. The flaws which people noted even back in 2008 only became more apparent as the industry and game design itself has progressed and evolved. But this game only holds up today (2021) in terms of its incredible visual and aural presentation, and nothing more. I was there at the original release to play this, and like many, I was wow'd at the time.
